Delays
Lately I've been spending less time on this particular project, so that I could focus on a much smaller game that I can possibly get launched in a few months. This will push out the launch of this game by about two months, possibly three.
When I do get back to this game, I'll be coming at it from a fresh perspective on the genre. Action RPG's are a crowded genre, and standing out from the pack is growing more difficult by the day. The financials can be solid, but with so many offerings they can also be brutal and unforgiving. This is a big part of why an action RPG won't be my first game to market, and why it may need to squeeze into an adjacent genre that I also happen to love, which is far less crowded. In fact shifting the genre a bit might enable me to lower the overall scope a bit, increasing the likelihood that I'll be able to finish the game and actually launch it.
The one thing I refuse to do is make a game that I'm not passionate about. When I'm choosing a project, I'm always thinking about the types of games that I love to play, and that would therefore be fun to work on. Sometimes they don't fit neatly into a genre, or at least not into a genre that I can put a name to, which is the case with the other project I mentioned. When I started this project, it was born out of a love for Diablo style action RPG's, with lots of hack n slash action and magic.
The current release target for this game is 2025. Possibly summer.
